Day 24: Mason

I have written previous poems featuring masonry, but I decided to write a new one for today’s prompt.  I saw a quote the other day that goes “you don’t protect your heart by acting like you don’t have one.”  I’m not sure why that quote influenced this piece, but it might have something to do with the way I protect myself, or the way the guys I’ve been with protect themselves, and the masonry prompt helped solidify it with imagery.

Chisel out the mortar
Which seals the stone together
You won’t be needing it
At least not now

Destroy the fortress that keeps others out
It’s really not helping you any
Without it, you’ll find love
But with it, nothing
