Year Ahead

Happy New Year, everyone!  I know, I know, I’m a bit behind, but I needed a poem to go with my well wishes.  2013 had its ups and downs for me, but all in all, it was an incredible experience in my life.  Hopefully 2014 has fewer of the downs and more of the ups, but you need both to appreciate the other and learn.  The poem I have I wrote last night and although it ends on a slightly down note, it’s full of hope and excitement for the upcoming year.  I’m always afraid to let someone in, and that’s what the last part represents, and not that I am expecting to be hurt.

You say I’m surprising
I’m pretty and unique
That I tell it as it is.
You say you’re lucky to know me
And that you’re not going anywhere.

You don’t realize what it means to me
After this past year
Where I lost a boy I loved
Was used by countless others
Led astray and abandoned along the way

What I need now is someone like you
Charming and sweet and caring
Willing to put the time in to bring down my walls.
To me, this is huge and unknown
It’s terrifying and exhilarating
Just please, don’t let me fall.
